Dr. JoAnne Silver Jones is Professor Emeritus from Springfield College, Springfield Massachusetts, where she was a professor and associate dean for 25 years. Prior to Springfield College she was an associate professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and an assistant professor of Social Welfare at the University of Calgary, School of Social Welfare. Her teaching and research focused primarily on social justice issues.
Her teaching and writing was recognized in North America and Northern Europe, where, in Sweden, she introduced a master of science degree designed for adult learners.
The assault that is at the heart of her first book, Headstrong: Surviving traumatic brain injury, reshaped her life. Her passion for justice was, if anything, emboldened as she immersed herself in understanding traumatic brain injury, post -traumatic stress syndrome, the consequence of being the victim of stranger violence, the cultural contexts and blocks to recovery and the ways in which trauma pervades daily life.
